Thermal Breaks in Structural Steel

Over the last 10 years, thermal breaks have become more common in building construction, and in the
Rocky Mountain Region. In many applications proprietary thermal break products are incorporated into
the structural building system. The types of products and applications vary, and proper specification,
pricing, and construction of thermal break products can be challenging. The SEAC/RMSCA Steel
Committee has researched the most common products and applications currently in use in the Rocky
Mountain market and identified common challenges and best practices for use of Thermal Breaks in steel
buildings.
Scope and Limitations: It is beyond the scope of this paper to quantify the benefits of thermal breaks with
respect to the energy efficiency of buildings.  READ WHITE PAPER
